The World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC) are an amazing experience, but it is prohibitively expensive for Kenyans, whose average annual income is £568. We need donations in the form of:
Why we need sponsorship:
Compare Kenyans' average annual income of £568 to the estimated to cost of the tournament (per person, excluding uniforms and gear):
- Player fee: £170
- Team fee: £50 / player
- Airfare: £500 (or less with help of airline miles)
- Visa: £85
- Lodging: £120 (£15/night for 8 nights)
- Ground transport: £15 (Oyster card + to/from Heathrow)
- Food/drink: £80 (£10/day for lunch+dinner for 8 days)
- Total: £1020
Economic inequality lesson: Here are some average annual incomes from around the world (in British Pound Stirling):
- Switzerland: £52,052
- USA: £32,900
- UK: £24,876
- South Africa: £4,944
- Kenya: £568
Now look up at the budget again. This tournament will cost almost double (1.9x) the average Kenyan annual income. For for a Brit that would be the equivalent of a tournament costing roughly £47,000!
Where your money goes:
All non-Kenyan-citizen players will pay their own way. 100% of donations will go directly to the tournament costs for Kenyan players who qualify for sponsorship.
For Kenyan players seeking sponsorship:
Team Kenya will be selected based on skill and commitment, not income levels.
Once the team is selected, Kenyan players will receive an income-based sponsorship that will range from £100 to £950.
There will be no 100% free rides. All sponsored players will be required to pay an income-based deposit in advance to secure their commitment to the team.
